MEMLab Research Blog

So I thought it would be nice to maintain a blog of the stuff Im working on in the MEMLab.
For the uninitiated, Im currently working as a Research Assistant at the Computational Psychology Lab at Syracuse University. We do research on developing mathematical models of memory, and computational techniques to further this research.

TCM - LSA Correlation

May 25, 2004
This is a big project which I have devoted most of my lab time to. LSA is a mathematical model that attempts to simulate learning in humans. It is an accepted model in the Natural Language Processing, Neuroscience community. The goal of this project is to show that the Temporal Context Model can also be used to explain learning. This is a fig. that has buoyed me up :)) This shows that the TCM correlation with LSA increases as the corpus size fed to TCM increases.

Mediated Associations & Free Recall

April 2004
We can fit the data from the Mediated Associations experiment to TCM pretty well now. The Free Recall requires more work though. Making changes to some of the model eqns to see if it would work.

Amoeba

April 2004
A large part of research involves fitting simulation results to data gathered from real(human, rat etc) subject. This is a cool tool to see how well your data fits. amoeba.tar.gz

MOSIX

Feb 2004.
MOSIX is a CPU load sharing tool. Hongliang suggested that we might put all the idle CPUs to some good use..and it comes with a cool filesystem too. Though I havent utilizzed its prowess yet, installing MOSIX on all the lab machines introduced me to sysadmin kind of stuff. Hello Kernel Compilation! :)
